Edge’s Condition, Butcher Responds To Graham, Melina Did Wrestler’s Court, Hall Back Home
- Edge’s official diagnosis is spinal stenosis, an abnormal narrowing of the spinal column. It is a common genetic problem among the elderly, most often those with a tall frame like Edge. His wrestling career and previous injuries have sped up the problem, much like it did with Steve Austin.
If Edge were to take a bad bump his chances of paralysis are far greater than those without the condition, thus the decision was made to retire.
It’s not something that gets better, so unfortunately no amount of healing will allow him to return.
This doesn’t mean he won’t show up every now on then for a light brawl.
- WWE Hall of Famer and hardcore pioneer Abdullah The Butcher recently responded to “Superstar” Billy Graham’s claims that he shouldn’t be in the Hall of Fame. Abby told The Ottawa Sun:
“I helped Superstar Billy Graham when he was in Calgary. I loaned him money. For him to say I shouldn’t be in the Hall of Fame is wrong. I still think he’s a nice guy, but he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. What shouldn’t I be in the Hall. They put Drew Carey in. What’s wrong with me? I drew money all over the world?”
Of course the reason why Billy Graham disputed Abdullah’s right to be in the Hall of Fame is because of accusations that he was infecting wrestlers with Hepatitis C through sharing a blade and/or cutting wrestlers without their knowledge.
These claims have not been verified and the Butcher has not addressed them directly. He appears to be skirting around the issue.
The claims are dealt with in a new documentary entitled “Don’t Bleed on Me”. The official summary reads:
In December 2005, a physical evaluation deemed Devon Nicholson to be a healthy, muscular, experienced professional wrestler on the cusp of achieving his dream of signing a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment. In 2009, Nicholson obtained that contract, only to have it rescinded on the grounds of him having Hepatitis C.
In between those two periods of time, Nicholson was involved in a series of wrestling matches with a “legend” of the hardcore, blood-letting style, Abdullah the Butcher; real name Larry Shreve. Upon further investigation into the cause of his Hepatitis C diagnosis and upon reviewing the footage of his matches with Abdullah The Butcher, he became aware of certain practices that Abdullah used in one of his matches against him. In the match, Nicholson claims that Shreve used a razor blade on himself repeatedly (the standard method for wrestlers to bleed during a match), but Shreve would also use the same blade on Nicholson, without his consent or prior knowledge, allowing both wrestlers to bleed excessively and have their blood “co-mingle”. Much like two junkies that share a needle, this practice is a dangerous one, due to the risk of spreading disease.
Some may remember a backstage incident involving The Undertaker and Bob Orton. Orton had been allowed to blade during a storyline with Taker in 2005, despite having hepatitis as a teenager. Taker was feuding with Randy at the time.
Sean Waltman was recently diagnosed with the disease and it has been suggested that Desmond Wolfe has been kept off TNA because he also has hepatitis.
- Melina reportedly attended Undertaker’s wrestler’s court in 2006, an unofficial and old school practice where the locker room leader sorts out situations, in order to address her backstage attitude and unscrupulous behavior.
This has emerged during the ongoing saga surrounding Morrison and Melina getting upset that Trish took her place at Wrestlemania.
There is a lot of negative information coming out about Melina’s character.
- Scott Hall has been released from Hospital, but his ex-wife didn’t rejoice. She told Mike Mooneyham of The Post and Courier that Hall, has little contact with their children—16-year-old daughter Cassidy and 19-year-old son Cody.
“He hasn’t seen Cassidy since August 2010,” Dana said. “I don’t think he has seen Cody in almost two years. They may have had one or two brief phone calls since then, but nothing that I know of.”
“He calls inconsistently and texts him, and Cody doesn’t respond… They hold it in. They hate to talk about it, but they accept that they don’t have a father or a normal life. The last time I talked to him face to face was when I took Cassidy to the hospital to tell him goodbye last August. It was a horrible scene. He had been doing crack cocaine for days and had used all the money in the account he wrote the child support check on and it had bounced.
“I have cut off his contact with me and the kids, and ignore his calls, texts and messages to me, which are 99 percent negative and nasty when he is drunk. At this point, he can have no contact with us unless I know his intentions. Actions speak louder than words.”

Abdullah the Butcher on WWE Picking Him for the HOF, His Style and More

Mar 27, 2011 - 1:45:33 PM - Soon-to-be WWE Hall of Famer Abdullah the Butcher will be appearing on Main Event Radio today. Here are some highlights of the pre-taped interview:
Getting the call from WWE:
"They called me about a month ago. When they called me I was sleeping and they told me they want to put me in the Hall of Fame; I jumped up and said just a minute. I ran to the bathroom really fast, started putting water on my face, started smacking my face. I ran back and he says 'This is Johnny Ace, we want to put you in the Hall of Fame.' I thought I was dreaming. I'm the one who started hardcore. I started hardcore on Johnny Rougeau, the Rougeau brothers, Maurice [Mad Dog] Vachon, and my manager Eddie "The Brain Creatchman.
I was in the business for many years. I scared a lot of people but they all liked me. I was not expecting it when they told me they were going to induct me into the Hall of Fame. They left me for last because I am #1. They left me for the last because I was the only one left."
Why he never wrestled for WWE:
"The guys in the wrestling business, when you're a top man and you're drawing a lot of money, they don't want the promoter to bring you in so they started to make up a lot of stories about Abdullah the Butcher. They told Vince don't bring him in because he's going to stab people with a fork, he's going to do this, he's going to do that."
Wrestlers using his hardcore style over the years:
"It's not the point that somebody tries to take your style. If you look a at Mercedes Benz style, now you've got other cars who started looking the same way. They're trying to sell cars. The guys who are trying to do what I used to do, they're trying to draw people. It's the same reason I did it. I'll never retire though...I'll keep going. I started in 1961, 50 years. I loved working with all my opponents, it was always a pleasure to wrestle. I would also like to thank the fans, a lot of people helped me get into the Hall of Fame, they wrote into WWE asking for me. Thank you very much and may God bless you all."

Abby Butcher Finally Announced, Mania Start Times, Trish Praises Chyna, Borash Interview
- Hardcore pioneer Abdullah The Butcher was finally announced on this week’s Raw as one of the 2011 WWE Hall of Fame inductees.
He has never actually wrestled under Vince, but the company wish to recognizing his contribution to the business.
- This year’s Wrestlemania will start at 7pm ET, 4pm PT, 12am GMT (UK time) and runs 4 hours long.
- In an interview with IGN, Trish Stratus said she believed Chyna should be inducted in to the Hall of Fame:
“I think Chyna should be next in because she did a lot of stuff to bring attention to the women’s division itself and just presented women as a different thing…I think fans were conditioned to see women as eye candy for a long, long time and she really broke the mold with that.”
- TNA’s Jeremy Borash was recently interviewed by the UK Sun Newspaper. He shared opinions on Jim Ross and Paul Heyman:
On Jim Ross: “To me, he is the greatest of all time. If you can hear a guy that can bring excitement to a call, adds to the attraction rather than subtracts. “I think he is not given any sort of respect up there (in WWE). At least the respect he deserves. As an announcer, I’m personally offended by it. To me he is the greatest of all time and deserves to be treated that way. If we are going to treat Ric Flair like we treat Ric Flair because he’s the greatest of all time then we should do it for Jim Ross too, because to me there has been no-one better. I hear stories about what’s going on. Nightmares. To me as an announcer, that pisses me off. Big time.”
On Paul Heyman: “When Paul was calling the shots (in ECW) and Paul had everything under control he aged himself about 30 years in the span of five, but he also could do things the way he wanted, and lived by his own rules. Unfortunately today that is impossible. You can’t use copywritten music on your television show and get away with any more. You wouldn’t see November Rain, great video as it was. You’d be sued and it would never make the air. Believe me, if we didn’t have a bank of lawyers and a corporate office to answer to, I’d be running the show just the same way. Renegade, on the fly, go by your own whims. That’s how Paul succeeded, when can call the shots and make his own decisions. Now, on the flip side, you don’t want him handling your money. His place to shine is creative. In this day and age we have people who handle the money and people who handle the creative. For Paul coming in, if there was ever a political situation where it would have worked, this would have been it. But he has a reputation to protect and I don’t think he’d doing anything going in thinking there’s a chance he wouldn’t succeed. I think in his life he’s pretty content where he’s at. I would have loved to have been part of a Paul Heyman era in TNA. Maybe someday it will happen.”
