Indy Star Larry Sweeney Passes Away
Indy wrestling star and manager Larry Sweeney, best known for his work in ROH and Chikara has passed away at the young age of 29 years old.
Specific details of his death are not yet known, but he was battling depression and was a diganosed bi-polar disorder sufferer.
Fellow wrestler Chris Hero wrote on his Twitter page:
“We lost a dedicated friend and an overwhelmingly talented performer this morning. Alex Whybrow aka “Sweet & Sour” Larry Sweeney has passed. We spent a few yrs together on the road & Alex was gifted beyond measure. He could enthrall you with colorful stories from his personal life or he could captivate thousands with his undeniable charisma. I loved him & my heart is with his family, friends & his countless fans. First he was my student & he transcended that almost immediately. I will forever cherish our in depth conversations & time spent together. Love you man. Miss you. Rest in Peace.”
Sweeney was a Chikara Young Lions up winner and the Wrestling Observer Best Non-Wrestler for 2007 and 2008.

RIP Sweet & Sour
WWE Defends Smoking Angle, Kurt Angle Injured? ROH Remembers Larry Sweeney, Neidhart Arrested
- In response to anti-smoking campaigners WWE made the following announcement regarding R-Truth lighting up on the UK tour:
“The negative effect smoking has on one’s health and physical performance was a part of a storyline on last night’s Monday Night Raw. Negative depictions of tobacco use on television are not unusual and can be seen on other TV-PG shows.”
- Kurt Angle noted on Twitter:
“Separated my shoulder at Lockdown. Much pain. May have lost but I broke Jarrett’s ribs. All of a sudden My pain is gone. Lol. Heading to TV”
- ROH put out the following remembrance for Larry Sweeney:
“Sweet and Sour” Larry Sweeney was a one of a kind performer who riled up the fans and touched all those he became close with in his personal life. Sweeney’s compelling charisma and unique personality will never be forgotten by ROH fans and especially those friends that he was closest to.
During his time in ROH, Sweeney managed the likes of Chris Hero, Claudio Castagnoli, Davey Richards, and many more gifted wrestlers that he took to the top. Sweeney was a highlight of every ROH event that he participated in, with his strong passion and intelligence for professional wrestling showing through. Sweeney captured the attention of every fan that saw him perform in and out of the ring.
Sweeney is deeply missed by everyone in Ring of Honor and we want to pay tribute to the man with a match that we know he would enjoy with not only two of Sweeney’s favorite current wrestlers, but two very close friends.
Colt “Boom Boom” Cabana will face the “Insane Savant” Delirious at “ROH Revolution: Canada” on May 7th when ROH returns to the Ted Reeve Arena in Toronto!
Delirious has not been seen in an ROH ring since August 2010 when he suffered a very serious injury at the hands of the All Night Express. One of the most distinctive competitors in the history of ROH, Delirious and his high energy style will return in Toronto after a long 9 month absence to pay tribute to one of his close friends.
Colt Cabana has repeatedly said that he wants straight-up, hold-for-hold competition without having to worry about a dirty move or shady trick. Cabana was very excited after receiving the news of his Toronto contest and he is certain it will be a great match representing honor and the memory of an overwhelmingly talented man.
“Larry Sweeney was a showman, an entertainer and a professional wrestler,” stated Cabana. “I can’t wait to dedicate this exhibition of those three things in a match versus another pro who feels the same way. I’m sure it will be an emotional match, but we all know Larry would’ve wanted everyone to smile, laugh and enjoy every second of the match. No doubt about it.”
It will undoubtedly be a fun and exciting match to honor a brother that we have all lost. “ROH Revolution: Canada” will be a roller coaster of emotions that you won’t want to miss.
- Former wrestling star Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart, was arrested recently in Tampa, Florida for driving without a license and for operating an unregistered vehicle. He was released on a $750 bond.
Jim is of course the father of WWE’s Natalya.
Larry Zbyszko Talks TNA Vs. WWE, Chris Jericho & More
On Keeping Up With The Business: "To be honest, I just don't find wrestling entertaining the way it is right now. I just don't watch it. I wish it was better for the new generation, it could be great but they make the guys look like morons. I just don't watch it because it's all silly. There's no suspense. You can see the same crap you saw tonight any night. Boring. They've just gotten stale because what they are doing today is the same thing they were doing 15 years ago. I can honestly say for any of these young guys coming up that I can see why they'd rather get involved in that Ultimate Fighting."
On Comparing His Noteworthy Bruno and WCW Angles: "It was kind of a night and day. The first one was my idea, turning on Bruno, but he was the one who taught me the psychology and taught me how to do it. I learned from him. Then 20-some years later, the New World Order worked because I programmed it. It was done the way Bruno would have done it. It was just done right. I'm the one that programmed it and set it up."
On Chris Jericho: "I don't do Internet stuff. I did "Last Call [with Scott Hall]" because Scott came and set it up at the house. I don't want to waste time on the kid, though. What else can I really say about him? Listen to the show [Last Call]. He's just better off dancing."
On How to Fix the Business: "The basic problem is that they just don't know how to make stars any more. What do they call them, Superstars? Everybody's the same. Everybody's inter-changeable. It's just repetitive. You'll see the same matches for the next year that you see any other time you turn on the TV. And instead of all these creative writers, all that they need is a booker. They could be telling stories through the matches. You don't need all these segments. The wrestling fans are tired of skits. Everybody I talk to - every radio show - says that. If everybody feels that way, wouldn't you do what the customer wants and get rid of so many skits?"
On Comparing TNA to WWE: "I love the TNA people. They've got some great people there. What TNA does -- they're very nice people and all that -- is that this is what WWE does, so this is what we have to do. WWE has 15 minutes of matches in an hour and 25 minutes and all those skits ... we have to have 15 minutes of wrestling and all those skits. They only do things because that's what WWE does, without understanding the rhyme or reason for it."
On Comparing TNA to WCW: "They're not being the same as WCW was, that's the problem. They're not operating the way WCW did it. A lot of those guys have no idea how WCW did it. They weren't there."
