Hello, readers. Before we get to the second September LOP Wrestler Rankings analysis, I wanted to let you know that I’m starting to get the hang of this social networking thing and wish to extend to you the invite to follow me on Twitter @DrCMV1 or befriend me on Facebook (Chad Matthews). I’m always up for some wrasstlin’ discussion whenever time permits, so drop me a line. Also, as a reminder, the new poll opens after the conclusion of Hell in a Cell and will stay open until one week from Monday (the 10th @ 11:59PM is the deadline).

The Top 4

1 – Mark Henry (previous rank #5) – Who’d have ever thought that the internet fans would vote Mark Henry #1? I guess it’s a testament to both what he has been doing and how the WWE has been booking him that he’s reached this point. I have sung his praises many times in recent weeks and I think he’s performed better in the last four months than his entire career combined. He’s having good matches on PPV, which is an utter shock considering the drivel he’s produced in the past. It’s not quite as improbable as, say, the Great Khali suddenly improving, but it’s not too far off. Honestly, happy to see it. The guy has been around for so long that if he didn’t figure it out like he did in the summer, then his entire career could’ve been looked at as a stunning disappointment and a colossal waste of money. Most of his career is still a large pile of potato peelings, but I commend him for his improvements and wish him a great title reign.

2 – John Cena (previous rank #3) – My eyes must be deceiving me if the net has voted Henry #1 and Cena #2. Cena’s the champ, but he’s also been on a roll in the ring since the middle of the summer. He did quite well against Alberto at N.O.C. and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. Isn’t the in-ring stuff what the IWC cares most about? Cena has a better overall match resume than just about everyone that has ever stepped in a WWE ring (yeah, he does). I ranked him #1 this go around, personally, and he did receive a solid percentage of first place votes.

3 – CM Punk (previous rank #1) – When we showed the rankings a couple of weeks ago and people provided snide comments in reply to Punk being #1 (as if it were a foregone conclusion), I thought it was funny. I thought it was funnier when the Punk fans didn’t vote for their guy and Mark Henry and John Cena jumped him in the rankings. Just as with politics of the government variety, if you want your guy to be #1, then you have to vote for him. You can’t just assume that people are going to overwhelmingly make your favorite candidate “the man.” Punk received just 3 first place votes after receiving almost 30 first place votes two weeks ago.

4 – Randy Orton (previous rank #2) – The combination of losing the World title and not challenging for match of the night at the recent PPV seem to be the undoing of Orton’s play for the top spot in the rankings. He’s dropped two spots and he could continue to fall with a lot of strong competition right behind him from a cast of younger or fresher stars.

The Next 4

5 – Alberto Del Rio (previous rank #4) – A lot of TV time have kept ADR relevant and in the top 5, but the loss of the title just four weeks after winning it knocks Del Rio down one spot and, like Orton, he’ll have to step up his game to avoid falling down the ladder quickly. With the title, Del Rio is virtually guaranteed to stay in the top 5, but without it, he is missing something. He hasn’t shown the ability that top spot wannabes Miz, Truth, Ziggler, and Rhodes have…

6 – Cody Rhodes (previous rank #8) – There is, perhaps, no more creative character in the WWE right now than the son of the son of a plumber. He is channeling some inner rage into some of the better character work of the year and has been one of the greatest beneficiaries of the increased exposure provided by the Raw Supershow featuring SD talent. His win over Orton prior to N.O.C., combined with being featured more heavily on the top show have contributed to his knocking on the top 5’s door.

7 – The Awesome Truth (previous rank #10 and #11, individually) – Given their shared fates in recent weeks, the Miz and Truth will be considered as a tag team in these ranking for the time being, so please vote accordingly for the ease of the committee calculating the votes. They received a first place vote, but their votes dropped off afterward until a strong showing in the latter part of the top 10 earned them a great deal of 6-10th place votes. They are storyline fired, though, so what happens now will be quite interesting…

8 – Sheamus (previous rank #7) – I believe that Sheamus is on the verge of stepping up to the main-event and will soon be challenging for the top spot. Sheamus has picked up being a babyface very quickly and the crowds are behind him. He’s getting time to develop his babyface character and his matches continue to be some of the consistently best on TV. His upcoming match with Christian on PPV could boost him up a few spots before potentially being the next challenger for Mark Henry’s WHC.

The Best 4 of the Rest

9 – Triple H (previous rank – unranked) – The Game stepping back into the ring vaulted him from not ranked in the last poll to the top 10. His character has gotten a lot of TV time – more than anyone since his return a couple of months ago – but you have to do it all to be ranked. His match with CM Punk garnered match of the night honors for many at N.O.C., so we can certainly justify his inclusion. I ranked him in my top 5, as did several others (but he never reached higher than a 4th place vote). However, without a match on the horizon anytime soon, he will likely be gone in the next poll.

10 – Dolph Ziggler (previous rank #12) – The United States Champion moves into the top 10 after having received some increased time on the microphone in recent weeks to go along with his usually top notch in-ring performances in the mid-card. Ziggler is a star on the rise, in my opinion, and it will be very interesting to see how far up the list he can go. Remember, these polls are not solely based on who’s the World Champion, but rather who does the most with the time that they receive on TV and PPV both in the ring and as a character. Ziggler has been given a lot of TV time lately; nearing the level of the main-event guys.

11 – Air Boom (previous rank #13) – The Tag Team Champions join the US Champ in moving up two spots from the previous poll. It would seem that, in recent weeks, the tag team divisional push has come along a little bit and the champs have been the recipients of more exposure. Their match at N.O.C. was pretty good, as well. Can they crack the top ten in the next poll? A HIAC PPV match given more time (since there are less matches than at the previous event) could be just what the doctor ordered for them…

12 – Kelly Kelly (previous rank #15) – Kelly jumps up three spots, as she is gaining some fans in the IWC from her in-ring work against Beth Phoenix on PPV. Her match at N.O.C. was one of the better women’s matches in recent memory. Her character could still use some work, but you can tell that she’s trying hard to be a better wrestler and that’s something that is worthy of both praise and a higher spot in the LOP Wrestler Rankings.

The Last 4 In

13 – Christian (previous rank #6) – Nobody has fallen further and faster than Christian since two weeks ago. His initial ranking saw him vying for a spot in the top 5, but the voters just did not show Christian much love this go-round. His TV time has cut down since his feud with Orton ended, but not to a great degree. His not having a match on the last PPV hurt him, as that has been one of the driving forces behind his early high rankings in polls #1 and #2, respectively. He should get back on track after HIAC.

14 – Sin Cara (previous rank – unranked) – Sin Cara makes his first appearance in the polls after doubling – literally – his TV appearances in the last few weeks. Cara has not really had any storylines written for him, with the exception of his short feud with Chavo “I’m a whiny unemployed former WWE wrestler” Guerrero, up to this point in his career. So, it’s nice to see him getting an actual feud rather than just botching moves in randomly thrown together matches.

15 – Wade Barrett (previous rank #14) – Wade has not done much, as of late, so it surprised me that he managed to stay in the rankings at all. However, we know that he has potential and that it wouldn’t take much for him to vault up the polls.

16 – Jack Swagger (previous rank – unranked) – I had Swagger in my initial rankings, but he didn’t make the cut in our first poll a couple weeks ago. He’s back – barely – after having registered just enough votes to put Daniel Bryan on the outside looking in.

Notes from the show:

Mason became the third PCW Champion. It's been announced that his first title defense scheduled will be against Dany Only at the Masquerade on October 20th

Kyle Matthews by virtue of his win will take on Davey Richards on October 28th at the Academy Theater

The Washington Bullets live up to their word and become back-to-back Tag Team Season champions, having won in 2010's Sacred Ground and now 2011. There's a rumor that next year's Sacred Ground: Chapter Three will have the semi-finals and finals of the Tag Team Season take place in one night

"Do Or Die" Chip Day pinned NWA Champion Adam Pearce, but the NWA title was not on the line.

Pandora and Aesha Sunshine's match was declared a draw when they both fell from the cage and went through two tables at the same time. The referee, Dr. MeLei determined that a restart wasn't possible due to the injuries suffered by both women. It has been announced that Pandora and Aesha Sunshine will finally have a final match for their amazing fued at the Masqurade on October 20th in an I Quit match, where everyone is banned from ringside

While Pandora has never suffered a loss at Sacred Ground (she beat Amazing Kong at last year's event, and went to a draw with Aesha Sunshine this year) Nemesis is the only wrestler that has two victories in the first two Sacred Ground events, having pinned Colt Cabana last year and Jay Fury this year.

By virtue of his Platinum Royal win, The Vandal may challenge for the PCW title. He already has one challenge coming to him due to another Platinum Royal win earlier in the year, but would not take his title shot because Grotesque was the champion. Time will tell if he will challenge new PCW Champion Mason

Rumor has it that the Empire wasn't pleased with the results of Sacred Ground: Chapter Two and are set to make a big announcement this Friday , September 30th at the Academy Theater.

Perhaps out of this spite, the Empire has announced that the next three Friday night shows will be at 10:30 p.m. instead of 8 p.m.

The Vandal and Seth Delay agreeing to make their match at the end of the Platinum Royal match five in their series is going to be allowed to stand, so The Vandal now leads the best-of-seven series 3-2.

Another match that's been added to the October 20th Masquerade show is "Sensational" Jay Fury teaming with the Washington Bullets against all three of the Konkrete Gorillaz (Nemesis, Brian Blaze and Geter)

"Breaking record" Tommy Daniels has done it again. Record for fastest pin ever PCW (18 seconds), handed over to Sylar cross loss of their first single and now has broke the undefeated streak of Marko Polo and his impeccable record.

World of grotesque PCW champion now adds attacking a referee in his most infamous reign. The Vandal had never officially received his fight, so he will be given one at a later date with a stipulation of his choice.

Tag team season playoffs officially start on July 1 as the Konkrete Gorillaz assume totally impressive, and the team of Shane Marx and Mason taking over the Washington Bullets in the first games in the series best of five. What’s up peeps? How’s it going out there? Good, correct? Before I start off tonight’s column, I got a question to ask… Would you buy an e-magazine covering WWE, TNA, MMA, Boxing, NFL, NBA, MLB, and Indy’s? Would you want to write for said mag? So, here’s the deal. This is a Power 15 of the top 15 wrestlers since the beginning of the year. It was a huge success back when I wrote the two pieces last year. So, by popular demand, I present to you the 2011 1st Quarter Power 15!

15. Sheamus
In at number 15 is a man who topped the top 15 not even a year ago. Oh, how Sheamus has mightily fallen off of the radar. After winning King of the Ring towards the tail end of last year he went on an epic losing streak. The streak continued on up through February until it came to a halt. On this fateful night Sheamus would put his career on the line for a shot at the United States Championship. The rest as they say is history. He may have had a very slow and dreadful start to the year, but he has made an impact in the closing. Sheamus is undoubtedly building the mid-card to good heights. The second quarter could be better.
14. Kofi Kingston
Next at 14 is a man who has had quite the opposite ride in the first quarter than the aforementioned Sheamus. Kofi began the year by capturing the Intercontinental Championship. The next month or so I firmly believed that he was on the ascend to a World Championship. It climaxed the night after Elimination Chamber, though, as I was positive that he was going to be added to the World Heavyweight Championship match making it a Fatal Four-Way with Christian also added. I was dead wrong, though. He proved to be nothing more than just a man who man del Rio look ultra strong heading into the spectacle of them all. Since then, he has been on the down fall. At this pace I wouldn’t expect to see Mr. Jamaican in the Power 15 at mid-year.

13. Daniel Bryan
Daniel Bryan Danielson is a man that desperately needs a change of character. The happy go lucky act is just not cutting it for him anymore. He was the indy darling because of his blood thirsty attitude, not because he was the ladies man. Given this it was a good thing that the E took the United States title off of him when they did. He has some good momentum building up going into the second quarter. A move to Smackdown definitely wouldn’t hinder him.

12. Triple H
I struggled with this ranking. I wasn’t sure of putting him in the 15 because he’s had one match. One match, and he lost it. I put him on here, though, ultimately because of how dominating he was in his math against The Undertaker. No man before him has put Taker through such a clinic. He did lose, though. I also believe that Trips is going to have a wild summer that could end in his final reign atop the WWE ladder as World champ.

11. John Morrison
Here’s the man who I was POSITIVE would win the Elimination Chamber match and go to WrestleMania and challenge The Miz for his WWE Championship. Instead he was put in the night’s pisser break match. I guess at least he was put on the card, right? Arguable, if it wasn’t for his actions involving Trish Stratus, he would more than likely be in the place that R-Truth is in right now. What a shame. I feel he may be on the downwind from here on out.

10. Christian
Christian is my uber favorite wrestler. I’ve been a peep since he created that phrase. But he’s long been dreaded as never being a World Champion. I believe that is all about to change in the next month. Dare I say it that Edge’s forced retirement could very well be the best thing to every happen to Christian. If it’s not, then I don’t know what is. Christian, my prediction to be number one at mid-year.

9. The Corre
The Corre could potentially be one of the greatest factions, ever. All they need is a little personality, and Vince to have faith in them. I do believe that Ezekiel Jackson could be World Heavyweight Champion this summer. If Wade keeps the Intercontinental Championship which he should as he adds instant credibility to the belt, and if Gabriel and Slater keep the Tag Team straps, they could be a very, very dominant force. All they need is a little push. A push as in ending the careers of The Big Show, and Kane. Yeah, you heard it here first!

8. Cody Rhodes
Mankind Jr.? Just seeing Cody so easily evolve his character over recent months tells you enough as to how much potential this kid has. My biggest fear for him was that Rey would bury him at WrestleMania. That never happened, though, as Cody prevailed and was able to fend off the push killing Mysterio.

7. Dolph Ziggler
Officially Dolph is a one-time World Champion. In my books he is not. Dolph started the year as arguably the top heel on Smackdown. At this point in time he stands as a top heel mid-carder. He’ll do battle for a World title by year end, but will it really be worth it after what he’s been through?

6. CM Punk
Punk just never can catch a break can he. He had an amazing start to the year by becoming the leader of New Nexus, and by taking down John Cena on numerous occasions. The thing that set him from 2-6 for me was how he lost at WrestleMania. He’d be the top man right now had he gone over. But no, creative has to be a dumbass and further push him down the totem pole. At this point, would it really surprise any of you if he faced off with Orton at the next three pay per views, and lost each of these matches? I know it wouldn’t surprise me.

5. Alberto del Rio
I still believe he’s sniffing the World title way to early. He deserves to be in the main event, yes. He doesn’t need to be sniffing the title, though, because if he loses, like he did at Mania, then you risk making him look weak. And I’d argue day and night that he came off as weak as fuck at WrestleMania. A match where he went over Christian would have been better served for him that night. But now, he’s in a match with Christian at Extreme Rules, and I’d argue that if he loses it’ll instantly set him off track. I just don’t like the way his booking is being handled. But you already knew that.

4. John Cena
How can he even be included here after being buried so bad by The Rock? Well, because he’s John Fuckin’ Cena.

3. Edge
I was almost inclined to give him the top spot after his retirement, but I figured that would just de-figure my rankings. He had with much doubt one of the strongest reigns of his career to close it. Some say he should of put over del Rio before he went out. Which if his career didn’t have such a short leash on it, he would of done. Tisk, tisk.

2. Randy Orton
Randy was on fire this quarter. The only thing he didn’t do was re-take his Championship. There’s so much more left for him to do with Punk, though. His shell is on fire, and the E knows when just to cash in on it.

1. The Miz
Not sure about the rest of you, but I’ve been sold on Miz for a little while now. He’s quickly becoming one of my favorite parts to watch every Monday night. It was good to see him put his dreadful first Championship defense be put to rest by straight-up dominating the first quarter. He honestly could have been tarnished beyond recognition had his feud with Jerry Lawler went just a little bit different. It’s safe to say, though, that he is on the quick track to becoming the face of the next Golden Age.
