WWE Board Member Resigns, WWE Rep Comments on Re-branding Campaign

Apr 19, 2011 - 5:56:47 AM - According to GreenwichTime.com, former Connecticut Senator & governor Lowell Weicker, Jr. has resigned from WWE's Board of Directors after serving for 15 years. Weicker told the paper that it was a mutual decision to leave.
The Greenwich Time speculates that Weicker's departure may be related to politics after he endorsed Chris Dodd in last year's Senate race and not Linda McMahon. He would not comment on whether or not politics is what led to his departure from the board.
They also note that WWE is going through the resignations of two of it's 10 board members in the past six months. WWE spokesman Robert Zimmerman said the change goes along with WWE's major re-branding campaign: "You may have read we are implementing a new business model, so the company feels that it is a good time to identify new directors to provide a fresh perspective to the company. WWE thanks the governor for his many years of service and guidance."
Regarding Weicker's departure, Linda McMahon released a statement through her publicist and had the following to say: "Because I resigned from the board of WWE and as its CEO in 2009, the best source to discuss the relationship between WWE and Lowell Weicker is WWE or Lowell Weicker."

ROH Re-Signs El Generico & Roderick Strong
(Bristol, PA- March 2, 2011)- ROH officials are excited to announce that both ROH World Champion Roderick Strong & former ROH World Tag Champion El Generico have re-signed with Ring of Honor for the foreseeable future!
Roderick Strong, who has been a part of ROH since 2004, is a former ROH World Tag Champion (alongside Austin Aries) with one of the longest title reigns in company history, and in 2010 finally captured the ROH World Title at "Glory by Honor IX" from Tyler Black. Since that victory, Strong has successfully defended the belt on five occasions to date, most recently in a "Barrio Street Fight" victory over Homicide at our "9th Anniversary Show". Now Roderick looks to back up his claims of being the best ROH World Champion in history by defeating his next challenger, former World Tag & TV Champion Eddie Edwards, at "Manhattan Mayhem IV" on March 19th.
"The Generic Luchador" El Generico first competed in ROH back in 2005, and has been a regular part of the roster since 2007. In that time he has captured not only the ROH World Tag Titles alongside Kevin Steen, but has captured the fans like few others who have competed in ROH. Coming off a brutal war that lasted throughout 2010, Generico unsuccessfully challenged Roderick Strong for the ROH World Title at "SoCal Showdown II" in January 2011. Still, Generico remains one of the top contenders for the belt and could very well earn himself another shot at "Defy or Deny" in Plymouth, MA on March 18th.

Both ROH World Champion Roderick Strong & El Generico will be in action when Ring of Honor goes back on the road in Plymouth, MA on March 18th for "Defy or Deny" and NYC, NY on March 19th for "Manhattan Mayhem IV". Tickets for both events are available at ROHWrestling.com.

-- While not confirmed, two separate sources within TNA Wrestling claim Steve "Sting" Borden has re-signed with the organization. This is not surprising as they've been in talks for the last month or so.

Here is a comment from the article, made by Matt Hardy? "It's so cool that TNA picked Fayetteville to do the show. It's going to be historic. It's going to be a really exciting, dynamic show, and a lot of fun for us, too. Fans at live events have much more enthusiasm and are much more genuine."
