Cruise, Zbyszko Headline Night of Legends Announce Team

The long-time WCW play-by-play announce team Chris Cruise and "Living Legend" Larry Zbyszko will anchor the broadcast team for the AWE Night of Legends pay-per-view.

Cruise and Zbyszko will be joined at ringside by "Dirty" Dutch Mantell.

1Wrestling.com editor Bill Apter and AWE editor Chris Graham will handle backstage-interview duties.

Veteran boxing, wrestling and MMA announcer Thomas Treiber will handle the ring-announcer duties.

"We've been fortunate to be able to assemble a top-notch broadcast team for Night of the Legends," AWE CEO Marvin Ward said. "For a lot of people, Chris Cruise and Larry Zbyszko were the best announce team on TV in the 1990s. It's awesome that we've been able to get them back together for this show to lay the foundation for the AWE product on pay-per-view TV."

C.W. Anderson: Who's next?

C.W. Anderson was getting ready for Terry Funk, but then he found out that the AWE brass was leaning toward having Funk match up with Tommy Dreamer at the Night of Legends pay-per-view on Oct. 15.

Anderson has an idea as to why.

"They're telling me, C.W., you can't face Terry Funk, he's 126 years old. You'll destroy him," said Anderson, who is in limbo as AWE officials scramble to find an opponent for him for the pay-per-view.

The difficulty in finding somebody willing to step in the ring with Anderson is not a surprise to Anderson, either.

"You see, the Andersons, they know hardcore. When you go back in time and you watch the video, the Andersons invented hardcore," Anderson said.

"So now they don't know who The Enforcer is going to take to the extreme. But get ready, because this extreme Horseman is coming for a vengeance," Anderson said.

Sonjay Dutt: 'Pick me, Kev'

Sonjay-Mystery Partner?
Kevin Nash needs a tag-team partner. Sonjay Dutt has someone in mind.

"Who better than Sonjay Dutt?" Dutt said in a video message to Nash posted on the AWE website today.

Nash served as a mentor to Dutt in TNA, teaming Dutt with Jay Lethal and working with the two in the ring and out to try to get the youngsters over.

Now Dutt wants to repay Nash for helping give him a boost in the wrestling business.

"Kev, you and me go way back. We're tight like this. We have a bond that none of these other competitors have, Kev," Dutt said.

DDP: 'I'm retired'

Speculation has intensified about Diamond Dallas Page being the "mystery partner" for "Big Sexy" Kevin Nash in the main event at the AWE Night of Legends pay-per-view.

Page, for his part, that he's "still retired."

"People say, DDP, who do you stay in contact with? Kevin Nash has been like my brother for over 20 years," said Page, who teamed with Nash as the Vegas Connection and then as The Insiders and won a WCW Tag Team Championship together.

Nash is openly looking for a partner to replace Marvin Ward, who had been scheduled to be Nash's partner in the main event, but was injured in a post-match attack by The Rock-n-Roll Express at a house show in Woodstock, Va., last week.

The talk about Page being inserted into the main-event slot in place of Ward has centered on the fact that Page ran to the ring to fight The Rock-n-Roll Express out of the ring after their attack on Ward.

Page denied that there was anything more to the save than what met the eye.

"Kevin asked me to watch Marvin's back. That's it," Page said.
