Day 555

"Get ready to fly.."

*By Request*

Destination X is tomorrow, and I don't think I've ever been this excited for a TNA pay-per-view. There are seven matches on the card, and it can be argued that there are seven Match Of The Night candidates, which just doesn't happen for wrestling pay-per-views these days. Time for me to make some predictions, and as I've been doing for my last couple of prediction columns, I'll be looking at what I think will happen at Destination X, as well as what I'd do if I were booking things. Let's get it poppin. Shall I proceed? (Yes, indeed.) Less dew eet!!

Douglas Williams VS ??? - Open Challenge Match
What I'd Do: A lot of people think that either Max Buck or Jeremy Buck will be answering Williams' challenge, based on the fact that they're X-Division members that don't have a place on the card already. Were it a tag challenge, I'd go for that, but this is a singles challenge. Because of that, and the fact that it would get a better reaction from people, I'd bring a former X-Division wrestler back as a surprise. Let's go with someone like Petey Williams, for the sake of the column. Even with that, I'd still have Douglas Williams pick up the victory, for two reasons.. one, it's only a one-time deal for Petey to return, and two, Douglas Williams is deserving of a push.

What Will Probably Happen: Maybe I'm crazy, but I think the person who answers the open challenge will be the debuting El Zorro. He's been a member of the TNA roster for a few months, with no debut taking place. A few weeks ago, at TripleMania 19, Zorro lost the AAA World Heavyweight Title to Jeff Jarrett, so he's "free" to work TNA dates on a regular basis now. If he comes in, he would cause an immediate splash by defeating Williams and moving forward, so that's what I think will happen.

Alex Shelley VS Amazing Red VS Shannon Moore VS Robbie E - Ultimate X Match to crown a new #1 Contender for the X-Division Title
What I'd Do: This one is pretty simple, in my opinion. When you look at the four names in this match, one name stands out as the most over with TNA fans, as well as someone that has been on television on a regular basis recently. On top of that, this particular person needs something to do for the rest of 2011 while he waits for his tag team partner to recover from knee surgery. Of course, that person is Alex Shelley, and the aforementioned reasons are why I'd have Shelley pick up the victory and build himself as the top contender in the division.

What Will Probably Happen: I think this one matches up with what I'd do. The company clearly doesn't know what they want to do with Amazing Red, as they tried to put him under a mask as Sangriento, but that only lasted for a few weeks. Shannon Moore and Robbie E don't even appear on television anymore. Alex Shelley is almost always being pushed somehow, and now that he's on his own for a while, I think he gets the win for another push. Alex Shelley becomes the new #1 Contender for the X-Division Title.

Austin Aries VS Low Ki VS Jack Evans VS Zema Ion - Four Way Match for a TNA Contract
What I'd Do: This one is tough. This one is really tough. Ki and Aries are big names, and are more than deserving of TNA contracts. Evans, for all of his flippity floppity moves, brings added excitement to the X-Division and a level of athleticism that isn't already in the division. I'm a fan of Ion's work, but he's just not on the same level as the other names in this match. To just give one contract out.. wow. Honestly, I think Austin Aries needs it more than anyone else does, which is why I'd have Aries win, getting the contract. Ki and Evans have more international options if they don't get deals with TNA, and Ion still has plenty of time. This should be Aries' spot.

What Will Probably Happen: Because of his previous history with the company, and because he carries the biggest "name" of anyone in the match, I think this match is going to be Low Ki's to take. Really, though, there's no "wrong" choice here. Even with Zema Ion. TNA could benefit from having any of these guys on the permanent roster.

Kazarian VS Samoa Joe
What I'd Do: Well, considering the fact that I'm a big-time fan of Samoa Joe and not a big fan of Kazarian at all, I think the answer to what I'd do should be pretty easy to figure out. Add in the fact that he continues to get misused, and of course I'd have Samoa Joe come out victorious, and I'd use it to springboard him to better things, because dagnabbit, he deserves much better than he's been getting. He has to win in convincing fashion at some point, doesn't he?

What Will Probably Happen: Kazarian wins. I continue shaking my head. The "Samoa Joe to Ring Of Honor" rumors grow a bit stronger. TNA will lose some fans.

Rob Van Dam VS Jerry Lynn
What I'd Do: While Lynn isn't moving like a cripple or anything, he's clearly lost a few steps since his "prime", as would be expected. RVD isn't exactly the same worker he was back in the days of the original ECW, although he is using the exact same moveset. I'm not putting these guys in the main event, like I've seen some people hope for. I'm not giving them upwards of 30 minutes to work with, like I've seen some people hope for. Because Lynn is only back for this event, as far as we know, I think the obvious choice would be having Van Dam win.

What Will Probably Happen: Hey, another "match". Lynn will get the "You've still got it" chants from the crowd, and will provide a bit of a "feel good" story for a while, but in the end, Rob Van Dam should get the win and move on. He's still being looked at as one of the top names in all of TNA, and if that's the case, he has to come out victorious here, finding himself back in the TNA Title picture at some point soon.

AJ Styles VS Christopher Daniels
What I'd Do: I'm going to cheat a bit and combine this with a "What Will Probably Happen" from an earlier match. More on that in a little bit. First things first, I'd have AJ Styles pick up the win after a really tight, back-and-forth match. After the match, I'd have AJ offer a handshake to Daniels, only for Daniels to turn heel on him, beating him down. This is where the "What Will Probably Happen" from an earlier match kicks in. As Daniels is beating AJ down, Low Ki runs out and looks like he's about to make the save.. until he also turns heel, joining Daniels and restarting the Triple X team. After a few seconds, Kazarian could come out and make the save with a chair or something, although I'd much rather see Samoa Joe make the save. It wouldn't make as much sense, but AJ & Joe VS Daniels & Ki just sounds like fun to me.

What Will Probably Happen: I do think Daniels will turn on AJ, but not at Destination X. My match result is the same, though.. AJ with a close victory.. and I think Daniels will wrestle with some added aggression and a heel-like mentality, but he'll still shake AJ's hand when the match is over, although you'll be able to see that it's eating him up inside to do so.

Abyss VS Brian Kendrick - TNA X-Division Title Match
What I'd Do: While I do want the title to be out of Abyss' possession, I wouldn't do it here. Kendrick is good in his role, but I think it will make for a bigger story if Abyss drops the title to a bigger name. Either the winner of the "TNA Contract" match, as I mentioned in a column a couple days ago, or the winner of the #1 Contender bout, but only if the winner if Alex Shelley. Therefore, I'd have Abyss retain the title here, and do it in relatively dominating fashion. I'd give Kendrick a flurry or two of offense to help build the crowd interest in the match, but eventually Abyss would squash him like a bug.

What Will Probably Happen: Another "match" in the main-event-that-we-all-know-won't-really-be-the-main-event of the show. Hooray me, I guess. I wouldn't complain at all if Kendrick won the match and became the new champion, but I just don't see it happening. Abyss wins, and retains the X-Division Title. Abyss' comeuppance is being built for something that seems much bigger than what Brian Kendrick can deliver. Sorry, Spanky fans.

The details of my life are quite inconsequential. Very well.. where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low-grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen-year-old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize. He would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon. Luge lessons. In the spring, we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent, I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds. Pretty standard, really. At the age of twelve, I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen, a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum. It's breathtaking. I highly suggest you try it.
